The other day I was in the mall and they were playing Christmas music. I was disgusted at first. I mean, Christmas is so far away that it just seems ridiculous to be playing Jingle Bells already. I was shaking my fist angrily at the speakers above me when suddenly I realized something; if the mall can already pretend it’s the holiday season, then I can pretend it’s one of MY favorite times of the year as well…. Halloween! That’s why I’m wearing a Green Goblin mask right now in the middle of the college computer lab.

I started thinking about the other things I am looking forward to and that’s when I remembered that THIS Friday Scarlet Carson is playing with Vince Neil of Motley Crue fame at Irving Plaza. How sick!!!!! Tickets are still available, so go buy them for me (as an early Halloween present).

Time Tripping

Today I spent an abnormal amount of time googling camping sites. I couldn’t find a single one I wanted to go to. So, while I was googling and googling (that’s a verb now a days), I stumbled upon my old Myspace somehow. So I of course signed in and had to look through my old inbox. It’s amazing what you can learn about yourself by going through your old e-mails. Personally, I learned that I am really funny. Also, I am very attractive to Internet prowling creeps. Thirdly, I had a game. E-mail game, of course, but game none the less. In the end, I think I used to be a lot cooler and I’m disappointed in myself.

As I was going through my e-mails, I found some from Martyr that had been sent to me before I ever started working for them. That was kind of neat. Clicking on those e-mails led me to the website where I was reminded that September 25th is our Martyr Rock Rising party/show at the Brighton Bar in Long Branch. Miller Lite and Vegas Fuel specials will be served all night and sexy music will be playing until your ears bleed.

On Sunday I have a wedding to attend. I am part of it actually and so I have been, for the last year, obligated to learn much more about weddings than I ever have previously. Now I know that theoretically, or according to most men anyway, weddings are a tremendous deal to women. But, I can say that the wedding is not a big deal to me. In fact, I think I’m just going to get married and then say “Drink til you can’t stand” and let everyone do their own thing. What’s important, friends and foes, is the love part. That’s all I care about.

Now, outside of my philosophical debates about tradition over the reality of the situation, I can say that there is one aspect of this ceremony that I am genuinely excited for (other than watching my friend walk down the aisle as she tries not to cry). I am excited because entering into the reception, I am escorted by our very own Nic and Josh. Now, I swear I am just doomed honored to spend my life with these two clowns. They are, as people tell me, moderately attractive and they are also, according to them, great catches. But, all I see are two bozos in tuxedos who are too cowardly to carry me into the reception like the goddess that I am. Therefore, I will probably have to hold their hands, show them which direction to walk in and smile enthusiastically while saying, “You’re doing a great job honey!”. There, have I emasculated them enough?

With that said, I know that not every one is going to a wedding with three sexy Martyrs. So I have a couple of things lined up for you to do instead on September 5th. For instance, Dive is playing in Scranton at 9 P.M at the Hardware Bar and I hear Steve Carell is going to be there.

Another band of ours, Planeside, is also playing in PA at the 4 & 3 Fest in Harrisburg.

Martyrdumb

It’s September 1st. It’s my first day of class and I am failing in almost every way possible already. I can’t remember how to make the é at the end of my name on a Mac, so I have to copy it from my Facebook. I can’t figure out how to put a description of myself on the tutoring website I’m working with. I can’t figure out how to parallel park and am forced to go to the parking deck. It’s really an astronomically dumb day.

What is not astronomically dumb is our band Dive though. They’re astronomical in a good way. So good, in fact, that they’re playing with Flyleaf on September 10th at the Electric Factory in Philly. I went to the Electric Factory once to see Michael Franti. I think I made out with someone. I don’t know. I was young. Point is, good things happen there.

Hope you are all enjoying the beginning of the best month of the year.

There Goes The Sun

Last time I checked, this is August, and as such the weather should be warmer. The sun should be brighter. But instead, the presence of Fall is already dawning over our tiny state as September’s shadow grows large before us. This does several things, like depress the hell out of me, but it also reminds me of all the things I have to do in September. Here’s a break down:

September 1- School starts (my last semester, thank you very much)
September 2- Rehearsal Dinner (wedding schtuff)
September 4,5,6- Wedding
September 17- I turn 24, silently kill myself in the bathroom
September 25- CONUNDRUM

September 25 is a big day. It is the 16th birthday of my younger, triplet siblings (shout out Zach, Hayley and Jordan!) But, it is also the Martyr Rock Rising Showcase at the Brighton Bar. A bunch of our bands are playing an amazing showcase while Miller Lite and Vegas Fuel will be dishing out drink specials. I mean, I know family comes first but I also really want to see Dive and End of an Era. Plus, Dennis is giving out free merch and if I get him drunk enough maybe I can steal a box of shirts and sell them at Canal Street…

I digress. I don’t know what to do.

Everything to Nothing

Hola. I’m back from Mexico. I’m not that tan… and I don’t have any stories I can share with you.. not here anyway.. I don’t want to make the Internet blush. I will tell you it was fun but it’s nice to be back in the dirty, you know? I mean, there’s only so much beautiful sun a girl can take until she starts craving the terrible gray skies that August 2010 has been giving us. Only so many drinks to be had until you desire early mornings and a full work week. There’s only so much lounging, eating and general not-caring to partake in before one realizes the monotonous, overly exhausting ways of every day life are the real treat. Not all inclusive vacations. Not sexy strangers beckoning you to dance with them. Not free shots of tequila. No, those things are nothing compared to working as a waitress, student and unpaid blogger.

Sigh.

This Saturday though, before reality really sets in and Summer truly ends, Scarlet Carson is playing with Skid Row at the Stone Pony. Tickets are only $20 freaking dollars. So I mean, since I’m already broke from cashing my dreams in for a ten foot tall margarita in Cancun, I might as well spend my last few bucks on a show that is worth much more. You know, let the Summer really go out with a BANG.. or a riff.. whatever.

Last Words

I’m sitting here, my room filled with clothes that I need to somehow fold and neatly pack into ONE bag and one bag only. Then, from there, I need to make sure I have every single thing I need to survive for a week; Ibuprofen, tooth paste, eyeliner, saline solution, etc. After this, I need to shower, charge my iPod and hope I have enough room for my hair straightener, which I will surely forget to pack. Tomorrow at 5 A.M, my sister, my mom and I will be heading to Newark (the ugliest place on Earth) in order to catch a plane to Riviera Maya, Mexico (one of the prettiest places on Earth). I am then going to indulge in banana daiquiris, massages, zip lines and, of course, sun bathing. I am telling you this not to make you jealous, but because I am obviously going to be incapable of blogging from Mexico… I don’t think they have the Internet there. Also, I don’t want to think about clothes while I’m there anyway, as I plan on wearing very little of them. So, don’t be alarmed. I’m not on hiatus again, I haven’t lost my mind and I haven’t forgotten about you. I’m simply busy napping in the lap of luxury.

Due to this trip, I won’t be able to make the next Martyr meeting either. So, I am leaving a few words for each of the members of Martyr. This will help soften the blow of my absence.

Jesse- you look ridiculous with your v-neck/sunglasses/duck tattoo. (One of these will be showcased at the meeting, I’m sure). Also, I don’t care how drunk you got this week.

Sam- Take a shower, take a nap, smoke less and finish your classes already. Also, enjoy this Thursday at the Blue Claws game.

Kelly- Terence isn’t that scary, buy him some Crocs and you’ll win him over. I have nothing mean to say to you, you’re too nice. Surfs up?

Nic- I hope you enjoyed your Sunday double. Heaven exists. See you at Rockbandfest.

Terence- You will now and forever be Terry to me.

And lastly, Dennis- When I come back, I am going to make sure my Dunkin Donuts cup leaks so much condensation onto your table cloth that your Melvis do’ falls out and you begin to weep, further saturating the table yourself like a real hypocrite.

I’d shout out to Josh, but he won’t be at the meeting either because he needs his alone time like a lady.

I watched this documentary over the last two days called Crazy Love. It was about this man who was so infatuated with his girlfriend that he hired someone to throw acid in her face after she broke up with him. I know, crazy! But then, after serving his sentence for disfiguring and blinding her, he was released and then..!!!..!!.. SHE MARRIED HIM.
I told Nico this story and he was like, “See, women are crazy!” I’m sure he was joking…. I think. Regardless, women can be crazy. No doubt. Since I am a lady I feel I am allowed to say these things, but females can be out right insane sometimes. They’re terribly mean to one another, they get jealous, they’re manipulative, they expect men to know what they’re thinking when they’re saying the complete opposite, and they’re so soft that men can not resist them regardless of all the craziness running through the veins that are under that very satin skin of theirs. It’s awesome being one of these creatures, but sucks for all of you that want us.

My point, which I have trouble getting to, is that not all women are like this. Only some. Not me, especially. Regardless, we [Martyr] are looking for some cool women vocalists who front their bands. We have a lot of bands, but they’re all fronted by men. We love cool chicks, especially Nic. He adores them. So, we need to find some. Live A Little

Sometimes life hands you things. Usually these things look great, but then a hidden retractable blade shoots out and cuts your finger off. After a quarter of a life, I’ve lost a few fingers and have learned to carefully consider all angles of something before I decide to pick it up and hold it closely. Also, it’s hard to hold things with the stumps I now have for hands.

We’ve all been burned, cut or otherwise sabotaged by people who seemed genuine, love that seemed different and offers that appeared to be too good for our particular brand of luck. So, when I tell you about an offer we’re promoting right now, I understand you may be hesitant. In fact, you’d be wise to be hesitant. But, by now I hope you trust me enough to at least consider this offer and look at it before deciding if it’s worth the risk. Because, if we let a few amputations take more than just flesh… if we let them take away our belief, our hope, our optimism.. then we aren’t losing aesthetics anymore. We’re losing the very things that make us who we are.

Rock Solid Plans

Summertime always brings with it some goals. Becoming tanner than last year, finding some looooooooooove, only drinking every other day, whatever. Everyone has something they’d like to accomplish during the sticky months that they didn’t care to accomplish as much during the icy months. For me, well the goal was pretty cliché -resemble a super model. You see, Fox and Hound in King of Prussia is putting on a Hot Bod Bikini Contest this Saturday, August 14th. It’s sponsored by Bud Light and two of our bands are playing; Dive and Carpet Ride. I wanted to be in this contest. Regardless if it would be a conflict of interest because I work for Martyr, I planned on walking in my bikini and winning every contest, along with everyone’s hearts. Unfortunately, I’m actually going on vacation and won’t be able to attend, BUT even if I could attend I wouldn’t be allowed to wear my bikini unless I had a garbage bag over it. Dennis said so.

Even though the guys are devastated I can’t be there to talk to them while they look at sexy, half-dressed ladies and even though I’d love to repeatedly tell them, “She’s not that hot” and then walk in front of them craving attention, I think they’ll get over it as soon as the show starts.

So, with my summer plans dashed, I can’t help but wonder. Is Summer the new, trendier and less cliché New Year? Are more plans successful in the Summer than in the Winter? What were your Summer goals?
